How to Treat Acne at Home?

Acne is among the most commonly diagnosed illnesses, affecting around 85% of young adults globally. Traditional acne treatments like salicylic acid, niacinamide, and benzoyl peroxide are the most effective, but they may be expensive and come with unpleasant side effects including dryness, redness, and irritation.

What are the causes of acne?

When your skin's pores get blocked with dirt and oil, acne develops. Each pore is connected to a sebaceous gland that produces sebum, an oily substance. Extra sebum clogs pores, enabling bacteria like Propionibacterium acnes to grow. When your white blood cells assault P. acnes, it causes skin inflammation and acne. Whiteheads, blackheads, and pimples are all common indications of acne, however, some instances are more severe than others.

Acne can be caused by a number of factors, including the ones listed below:

Infections are influenced by heredity, food, stress hormones, and infections.

Best home remedy for acne overnight

Make use of apple cider vinegar

Fermenting apple cider, or the unfiltered juice from squeezed apples yields apple cider vinegar.

  • Add three fourth parts water to a quarter part of apple cider vinegar (use more water for sensitive skin).
  • After cleansing, use a cotton ball gently.
  • Allow it to sit for 5 to 20 seconds before rinsing it with water and patting it dry.
  • It's crucial to know that using apple cider vinegar on your skin can cause irritation and burns, and most dermatologists advise against it.

Consider taking a zinc supplement

Zinc is a mineral that is required for cell growth, hormone production, metabolism, and immunological function. The acceptable upper limit for zinc is 40 mg per day, so unless you're under the guidance of a doctor, it's probably best not to exceed that amount.

Taking too much zinc can have negative consequences, such as stomach pain and intestinal inflammation. It's also worth noting that putting zinc on the skin hasn't been proven to work. This could be due to the fact that zinc is poorly absorbed by the skin.

  • Make a mask with honey and cinnamon.
  • Combine 2 tablespoons honey and 1 teaspoon cinnamon to produce a paste.
  • After cleansing your face, apply the mask and leave it on for 10 to 15 minutes.
  • Remove the mask completely with water and gently massage your skin to remove any remaining residue.

Tea tree oil

Tea tree oil comes from the leaves of Melaleuca alternifolia, a small Australian tree. Because tea tree oil is so potent, dilute it before applying it to your skin.

  • 1 tbsp. tea tree oil and 9 tbsp. water
  • Using a cotton swab soaked in the mixture, apply it to the affected areas.
  • If desired, use a moisturiser.
  • As needed, repeat this process.
  • You can also use tea tree oil-based face wash.

Green tea

Green tea is high in antioxidants which help you to be healthy. It may also help with acne therapy. Green tea creams and lotions are available for purchase, but making your own is just as easy.

  • Green tea should be steeped for 3 to 4 minutes in hot water.
  • Allow the brewed tea to cool before using.
  • Allow it to dry.

Aloe vera gel is a great moisturiser

Aloe vera is a tropical plant whose leaves create a clear gel. The gel is often found in lotions, creams, moisturisers, and shampoos. It's typically used to treat the following conditions: abrasions, rashes, burns, wounds, and inflammation of the skin Salicylic acid and sulphur, of which are commonly utilised in the treatment of acne.

Turmeric face mask

Brides in India usually apply a turmeric mask before their wedding to get beautiful skin. This is likely owing to the spice's anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antioxidant characteristics, as well as its ability to reduce the severity of acne, alopecia, atopic dermatitis, oral lichen planus, pruritus, and psoriasis.

Exfoliate on a regular basis

The dead skin cells and excess oil and dirt are removed by exfoliation of the skin. Once the top layer of skin is removed, exfoliating may make acne treatments for the skin more effective by allowing them to penetrate deeper.

How to Avoid Acne?

While there is no 100% certain technique to eliminate acne for good, there are several habits you may incorporate into your daily routine to help prevent breakouts. Here are some suggestions:

  • Make sure you wash your face properly. To avoid getting pimples, cleaning the face and removing dead skin cells, dirt and oil are very important.
  • Apply a moisturiser to your skin. Even if you have acne, it's critical to keep your skin hydrated. When skin becomes dry, it produces oil to compensate, which can lead to excessive sebum production and clogged pores.
  • Makeup should be kept to a minimum. Excessive makeup use can clog pores and cause breakouts. To avoid skin irritation, make sure your makeup is non-comedogenic and fragrance-free. Always wash off your makeup, especially before going to bed.
  • Keep your hands away from your face. Touching your face can spread bacteria, as well as pore-clogging pollutants, onto your skin.
  • Limit your time in the sun. Frequent sun exposure dehydrates the skin, causing it to generate more oil and clog pores over time.
  • Don't squeeze pimples. Bleeding, significant scarring and infection may all come from popping a pimple.

Take Away

Many people choose to use natural treatments. Although most home remedies for acne have not been proven to be beneficial in clinical trials, they are offered as an alternative therapy option. If you have severe acne, though, you should contact a dermatologist.
