Sea Salt

Your body consists of the same concentration of nutrients and minerals as seawater, so it's no doubt that sea salt is a natural way to balance, protect, and restore your body and skin.

One of the major differences between sea salt and ordinary salt is their mineral content: Sea salt is loaded with minerals, like magnesium, sodium, calcium, and potassium, all of which play a vital role in your skin's function, health, and cellular communication. When your skin's mineral is out of balance, symptoms such as dryness, dullness, irritation, and blotchiness occur, especially with the colder, dryer weather. Bringing sea salt from the kitchen into your beauty routine can help balance and boost hydration, strengthen the protective shield of your skin, and kick-start the cell-to-cell communication signals that may slow down with ageing.

Ways to Use Sea Salt for Clear & Glowing Skin

Here are various methods by which you can add sea salt to your skin in your beauty regime to improve your skin's health.

Sea salt mask for skin soothing

Calm your acne-prone skin and get rid of the inflammation by making a face mask from sea salt and honey. Both the ingredients have anti-inflammatory properties, so they help soothe your skin and also balance the oil production in your skin. For this mask, take 2 tsp of finely ground sea salt and 4 tsp of raw honey. Mix them well and apply the mix to clean and dry skin. After 15 minutes, soak a soft cloth in warm water and put it on your face for 30 seconds. Now exfoliate your skin using your fingers in a circular motion and rinse it with lukewarm water.

Sea salt toner for deep cleansing

You can make use of sea salt as an oil-reducing facial toner as it cleanses your pores and balances the production of oil. Using it on your face can also minimise breakouts. To make a sea salt toner, mix 1 tsp of sea salt with four ounces of warm water. Pour this mix into a spray bottle. Spray the mix on dry skin, avoiding your eyes. Use this sea salt toner 2 times a day for noticeable changes.

Sea salt body scrub for hydration

The natural texture of sea salt makes it a great exfoliator. You can use it on your skin to get rid of the dead skin cells and restore hydration. The minerals in sea salt will smoothen your skin. To make your own sea salt body scrub, mix a ¼ cup of sea salt, ½ cup of olive oil and 10 drops of any essential oil of your choice. Apply this scrub in the shower to scrub your skin gently to get softer and smoother skin.

Reduce water retention with salt for skin bath

Sea salt cleanses your pores by soaking dirt, grime, and toxins from the body. Enriched with minerals, sea salt helps your skin retain its moisture and the magnesium in sea salt may also help decrease water retention in the body. For a relaxing sea, a salt bath adds ⅓ cup of sea salt to a tub filled with warm water. After mixing it well, soak for around 15 to 30 minutes.

Nail brightening with sea salt

Your nails get stained over a period of time. You can use sea salt to get your brighter and healthier-looking nails back. Using the sea salt on your nails removes the stains and also softens your nail cuticles. For this, mix 1 tsp of sea salt, 1 tsp of baking soda, 1 tsp of lemon juice and ½ cup of warm water. Soak your nails in this mix for 10 minutes and later scrub your nails with a soft brush. Wash your hands properly and apply a nourishing moisturizer.

Scalp treatment with sea salt

You can make an anti-dandruff treatment by using sea salt which helps to loosen and remove flakes from your scalp. It also soaks excess oil and moisture from your scalp which helps to stop fungal growth to prevent dandruff. Sprinkle 2 tsp of salt on your scalp and using wet fingers massage it thoroughly on your scalp for approx 10 minutes. After this wash and condition your hair with your regular cleansers.

Teeth whitening with sea salt

When sea salt is mixed with baking soda, it whitens your teeth and is good for the gums. A saltwater rinse might help you with swollen and irritated gums. Mix 1 tsp of sea salt with 2 tsp of baking soda. Dip a soft brush in this mix and brush your teeth normally.

Sea salt mouthwash

Sea salt acts as a natural disinfectant and kills the bacteria that lead to bad breath. To make a sea salt mouthwash, mix ½ tsp of sea salt, ½ tsp of baking soda and ¼ cup of water. Mix all the ingredients well and swish the solution in your mouth making it swish well between teeth, then spit it out and rinse well with normal water.
