By refrigerating them you can enhance their soothing symptoms. But such creams are not that effective in the itchiness that follows with shingles infection.

  • Take a bath. Use lukewarm water with a half cup of Epsom salt or baking soda for a bath. Do not scrub hard and use a mild soap. Rinse thoroughly and apply a thick layer of moisturizer afterward. 
  • Take a sound sleep. Getting sound sleep might reduce the risk of itchy skin.

Effective Natural And Home Remedies For Itching

Itching can be for a variety of reasons. For example, it can be due to many reasons like you touched a certain variety of plants, like poison ivy or ragweed. Itchiness and eczema are the two skin conditions that can cause itching and dry skin. Even an insect bite or cut or even sunburn can cause you itchiness.

Here are some effective natural and home remedies to cure itching: 

Wet Wrap Therapy

Wet wrap therapy involves the application of a water-soaked surgical net at the spots of itching.

These wraps are effective in rehydrating and soothing the skin while protecting the spot against any scratching.

The NEA prescribed the following steps to follow for wet wraps.

  1. Dip a part of gauze in lukewarm water till it damps completely.
  2. Now wrap wet gauze around the itchy part of the skin.
  3. Put a dry piece of gauze over it.
  4. Wear only some soft cotton lower that does not scratch against the bandages.
  5. Leave it overnight.

If the itching still continues, consult a doctor for further treatment.

Apple cider vinegar

One of the best solutions for itching is apple cider vinegar which contains acetic acid, as a natural antiseptic or wound disinfectant.

According to the National Psoriasis Foundation (NPF), apple cider vinegar can be proved helpful in relieving the itchy scalp.

The NPF recommends 1:1 diluting of the apple cider vinegar in water. Apply this solution to your scalp and let it dry for some time before rinsing it off with warm water.

Cooling That Irritating Itch

The American Academy of Dermatology suggests that in order to relieve the itchiness of your skin you may apply a cold wet cloth for 5-10 minutes to the affected area as it helps reduce the itchiness by reducing the inflammation.

Applying Menthol to Your Itchy Skin

For centuries menthol has been an essential oil that has a cooling effect that relieves itchiness and pain instantly.

A study of using peppermint oil, which contains menthol to treat itchy skin in pregnant women. Here they divided a group of pregnant ladies into two groups, one given sesame oil with 0.5% of peppermint oil while the second group received a combination of olive and sesame oil. It is found that those who applied the peppermint-infused oil to the itchy part reported a significant reduction in their itchiness compared to those who used the other combination.
