Everyone has different skin types, so there are different products based on the skin types. Oily skin types need extra care though it is a normal skin type. Although everybody's skin produces sebum through the sebaceous gland. Sebum is an oily or waxy substance that protects your skin and hair and helps in providing moisturizers to both. Oily skin has clogged pores and greasy layer and also chances of acne production. 

What is oily skin?

Oily skin has more sebum production than normal skin and has clogged pores and a greasy surface. It is the only result of the overproduction of oil or sebum in the skin. The oil is secreted sebaceous gland located under the surface of the skin.

Sebum is made of fats and oil and is not bad for the skin as it moisturizes the skin and keeps it healthy, but too much sebum production can cause acne on the face and skin. Oily skin can also be the cause of hormonal changes, stress or it could be genetics that leads to more sebum production. 

Usually, oily skin is too annoying to manage and take care of it. You can prevent your skin from getting much oily from some kitchen remedies and proper skincare which is easily available at your as well in the market. You will not have to invest a huge amount of money in buying nonessential expensive products that are not at all necessary for your skin type and can turn into other skin conditions.

Here are some remedies or DIY that can help prevent oily skin and make it look healthy:

1. Wash your face twice a day

Washing your face removes dead skin cells, dirt, and bacteria from your face. You must wash your face twice a day once in the morning and once at night at bedtime with a face wash that is suitable for your skin type. Oily skin types should not overdo the face wash and they usually do not wash their face but they must do it at least two times a day. 

Oily skin type people should wash their face with a gentle cleanser or foaming face wash for oily skin that won’t irritate the skin and control the production of excess oil secretion. Avoid using that harsh to the skin. You can also use a toner that can prevent open pores and tighten the skin and prevent it from getting clogged as oily skin people generally have large open pores. There is a toner for oily skin that reduces the appearance of large open pores.

2. Use Blotting papers

When you have an oily and greasy face you need to wash your face, again and again, to avoid making it look dull and shiny. But washing your face repeatedly may irritate your skin so to avoid your face washing over and over, you can use blotting paper which is inexpensive and easily available in the market. Blotting paper is a small thin paper that prevents your skin from excess oil on your face by blotting the excess oil on the skin and minimizing the greasy shiny skin. You can use blotting paper throughout the day whenever you require the need for it.

3. Do not touch your face

Touching your face with hands and fingertips can cause the spread of bacteria and dirt that you carry from the environment. The touching face will cause more production of oil to the areas and may lead to acne formation. So try not to touch your face throughout the day.

4. Honey

As you know honey acts as a humectant that keeps the skin moisturized. It is the best skin remedy and also acts as antibacterial and antiseptic properties. Honey is very beneficial for oily and acne-prone skin. You can apply honey as a face mask and that will not make your face appear greasy as it only moisturizes your skin that is drawn from your skin itself. Honey is beneficial for every skin type as it removes blackheads whiteheads and also tightens the skin by removing wrinkles and fine lines.

5. Use Multani mitti or face clay

Multani mitti or fullers earth or any facial clay help absorb the oil from the skin and prevent clogged pores and formation of acne and give a refreshing feel to the skin. Take this facial clay and add rose water or normal water and mix it well to form a paste with a consistency that can be applied to the face. Leave it for 10 minutes until it dries and then wash with lukewarm water and pat it dry.

6. Aloe vera

Aloe vera has anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties and can treat sunburns and other skin conditions. Many people use aloe gel to treat flaky skin caused by the oily deposited on the skin. It provides a soothing effect to the skin. You can apply aloe vera gel to treat oily skin. You can directly apply aloe vera on the face and other body parts with oily skin and it will help you prevent oily skin and clogged pores.

How to prevent oily skin?

Oily skin is usually caused due to unhealthy food habits like eating fried foods, foods rich in sugar, and other processed food. It also occurs due to hormonal changes and it could be also due to genetics. Makeup products and other unwanted products can lead to more oil production on the face. So to prevent oily skin, go for the product that is water-based instead of going for oil-based as the oil-based products may make your skin seem oilier than before.
